Status labels describe the strength of currently available evidence; they are not promises of absolute truth.

- State the claim in testable terms.
- Find the earliest available primary evidence.
- Cross-check with independent reporting and domain expertise.
- Record agreement, conflict, recency and provenance.
- Publish what is known, what remains unclear and what would change the assessment.
Labels
- Verified: supported by strong, consistent evidence.
- Developing: material facts may still change.
- Disputed: credible sources conflict or available evidence challenges the claim.
- Context added: accurate information needs material qualification.
Careful language
When evidence is incomplete we say so. We prefer ‘available evidence does not currently support the claim’ to categorical language that goes beyond the record.
